What is a Fat Quarter?
A normal quarter yard of fabric is 9" x 42".
A Fat Quarter is first cut as a half yard of fabric. Then the half yard is cut again along the fold line, turning the half yard into a quarter yard...approximately 18" x 21".
Fat Quarters are very handy when you need to make several cuts of multiple sizes. There are many great books and patterns written for using fat quarters. Quilters love to collect them, knowing there will always be a new idea to put them to good use!
